Faith Chronicles

A month of daily readings, written by Dr RJ Sing for his church every month from 2007 until his passing in 2024. Pastor Zubeda Sing wrote alongside him, and she continues them today. Each reading has its scripture, the teaching, a confession and the day's Bible reading plan.

In 2021 and 2022 he also wrote daily messages for believers in business and at work — the Marketplace, kept with the rest of his writing on his own site.

The Cost of a Wrong Decision

“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.” Genesis 3v6

It was not about the serpent or the apple, it was about a decision that Adam made. He was presented with a tempting situation. He had the word of God and he had the prese…

    Wrong Motive

“Then [Salome] the mother of Zebedee’s children [James and John] came up to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down [in respect], asked a favor of Him. And He said to her, “What do you wish?” She answered Him, “Command that in Your kingdom these two sons of mine may sit [in positions of honor and authority] one on Your right and one on Your left.” But Jesus replied, “You do not realize what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup [of suffering] that I am about to drink?” They answered, “We are able.” He said to them, “You will drink My cup [of suffering]; but to sit on My right and on My left this is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by My Father.”” Matthew 20v20-23

The mother of John and James came to Jesus, wanting the best for her sons, her request literally meant that Jesus would choose her sons above the other disciples. Noble t…

    Wealth Vs Eternal Life

“As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He noticed two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And He said to them, "Follow Me [as My disciples, accepting Me as your Master and Teacher and walking the same path of life that I walk], and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed Him [becoming His disciples, believing and trusting in Him and following His example].” Matthew 4v18-20

Peter was a successful man, who had a prosperous business. He was well known as a fisherman. How do I know? Remember when he spoke, how he astounded those listening to hi…

    Change of Destiny

“Now Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord [and relentless in his search for believers], went to the high priest, and he asked for letters [of authority] from him to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any men or women there belonging to the Way [believers, followers of Jesus the Messiah], men and women alike, he could arrest them and bring them bound [with chains] to Jerusalem. As he traveled he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him [displaying the glory and majesty of Christ]; and he fell to the ground and heard a voice [from heaven] saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting and oppressing Me?” And Saul said, “Who are You, Lord?” And He answered, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting, now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”” Acts 9v1-5

Saul took a decision to persecute the church. He got all the necessary documentation to arrest and kill those who were following the way. What he did not count on was God…

    Taking Advantage of the Promise

“Now Abraham journeyed from there toward the Negev (the South country), and settled between Kadesh and Shur; then he lived temporarily in Gerar. Abraham said [again] of Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” So Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah [into his harem]. But God came to Abimelech in a dream during the night, and said, “Behold, you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken [as your wife], for she is another man’s wife.”” Genesis 20v1-3

Abraham had a promise from God that he would have a son and his descendants would be as numerous as the sand of the sea. However, God’s blessing depended on the obedience…

Help Me Out of My Detour

“When Abram heard that his nephew [Lot] had been captured, he armed and led out his trained men, born in his own house, [numbering] three hundred and eighteen, and went in pursuit as far [north] as Dan. He divided his forces against them by night, he and his servants, and attacked and defeated them, and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus. And he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his nephew Lot and his possessions, and also the women, and the people.” Genesis 14v14

The background to this story was, Abraham and Lot his nephew could not stay in the same land as their goods and cattle had increased to the point where the land could not…

    Partnership Letter for September 2024

Welcome the month of September. The beginning of a new season in the natural, the beginning of springtime. Springtime speaks of renewal, a time where all the dead things of winter have fallen away and new plants start to bloom again. The beauty of colour and brightness comes into our natural environment. Likewise, in our spiritual life, the light of Christ which may have dimmed or waned, now comes back to life. We have an opportunity

Better Decisions – Better Quality of Life

“And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in. And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?” 1 Kings 3v7-9

Solomon was chosen as King over Israel after his Father David. He immediately went to God and asked him for wisdom on how to rule his people with wisdom. Actually God cam…

    Jesus Gave

“And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying,” Matthew 26v26

When you go through the gospels, it will amaze you at how many times Jesus gave, he gave of himself, he gave his love, he gave his compassion. He taught his disciples, he…

    Sowing Seeds for your Future

“Then I will rebuke the devourer (insects, plague) for your sake and he will not destroy the fruits of the ground, nor will your vine in the field drop its grapes [before harvest],” says the LORD of hosts. “All nations shall call you happy and blessed, for you shall be a land of delight,” says the LORD of hosts.” Malachi 3v11-12

Seeding to the kingdom of God ensures every area of our lives are taken care of. God promises to rebuke the devourer from our lives. No one will steal from us nor will we…

    Being a Blessing

“On one occasion, Jesus was preaching to a crowd on the shore of Lake Galilee. A vast multitude of people was pushing to get close to Jesus to hear the word of God. He noticed two fishing boats at the water’s edge, with the fishermen nearby, rinsing their nets. Jesus climbed into the boat belonging to Simon Peter and said to him, “Let me use your boat. Push it off a short distance away from the shore so I can speak to the crowd.”” Luke 5v1-3

Peter was one of the disciples that Jesus relied on. He made many demands on him. Peter always complied. He gave whatever was asked of him. In this instance there was a c…
