Taking Advantage of the Promise
Pastor Wesley & Yajhna Sing · 1 min read

“Now Abraham journeyed from there toward the Negev (the South country), and settled between Kadesh and Shur; then he lived temporarily in Gerar. Abraham said [again] of Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” So Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah [into his harem]. But God came to Abimelech in a dream during the night, and said, “Behold, you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken [as your wife], for she is another man’s wife.””
Abraham had a promise from God that he would have a son and his descendants would be as numerous as the sand of the sea. However, God’s blessing depended on the obedience of Abraham. Abraham was so sure of God’s protection that he lied that Sarah was his wife and said she was his sister. King Abimelech was accosted by God and told that he would die if he touched Sarah. Even in his deception God came through for Abraham, but he made an enemy of the King. His decision almost cost the life of the King and his people. The decision Abraham made could have also cost him his life had God not intervened.
Let us take this example to live circumspectly, walk in the ways of the Lord and seek out his counsel all the days of our lives so we do not take advantage of the promises of God and get ourselves into sticky situations. It could cost our lives. Be wise in all your ways.
