Wealth Vs Eternal Life

Pastor Wesley & Yajhna Sing · 2 min read

“As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He noticed two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And He said to them, "Follow Me [as My disciples, accepting Me as your Master and Teacher and walking the same path of life that I walk], and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed Him [becoming His disciples, believing and trusting in Him and following His example].”
Matthew 4v18-20

Peter was a successful man, who had a prosperous business. He was well known as a fisherman. How do I know? Remember when he spoke, how he astounded those listening to him that they had to ask where were these men educated? Are they not just fisherman. So taking into consideration the fact that he was already well known for his business prowess, the decision to follow Jesus must have cost him. However, in a moment Peter followed Jesus and never stopped. The decision must have cost him financially, but this did not matter to him. He had made an eternal decision. Jesus was the way, the truth and the life so following Jesus was better than following his desire for wealth.

In many instances, our decisions are based on what our returns will be. Will we be prosperous, how will this decision impact my financial life? That would be normal for each of us, however we need to take a long-term look. When we leave this world, where do we go. Yes, whilst we are on earth, we may live a wealthy life but we will miss out on eternal things as our desire for wealth will be greater than our desire for God. I am not saying being spiritual means you have to be poor. No, you have to take a long term consideration and when your heart is after God, there is nothing that can stop you from being wealthy and balanced in your life.
