Faith Chronicles

A month of daily readings, written by Dr RJ Sing for his church every month from 2007 until his passing in 2024. Pastor Zubeda Sing wrote alongside him, and she continues them today. Each reading has its scripture, the teaching, a confession and the day's Bible reading plan.

In 2021 and 2022 he also wrote daily messages for believers in business and at work — the Marketplace, kept with the rest of his writing on his own site.

The Spirit’s Clear Mandate to Apostle Paul

Pastor Zubeda Sing

“But when God, who had chosen me and set me apart before I was born, and called me through His grace, was pleased to reveal His Son in me so that I might preach Him among the Gentiles [as the good news—the way of salvation], I did not immediately consult with anyone [for guidance regarding God’s call and His revelation to me]. Nor did I [even] go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia and stayed awhile, and afterward returned once more to Damascus” Gal 1 v15-17

    The Call to John

“Going on a little farther, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John, who were also in the boat mending and cleaning the nets. Immediately Jesus called to them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired workers, and went away to follow Him [becoming His disciples, believing and trusting in Him and following His example].” Mark 1v19-20

The book of John provides a treasure trove of Jesus’ stories and teachings not found in the other Gospels. It is also the simplest and most profound of the Gospels. Rich …

The Call to Simon Peter and Andrew

“As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He noticed two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And He said to them, "Follow Me [as My disciples, accepting Me as your Master and Teacher and walking the same path of life that I walk], and I will make you fishers of men.”” Matthew 4v19-120

Peter was always thinking, and he always thought with a view toward action. When he heard “question,” he immediately thought “answer.” When he observed “problem,” he thou…

    The Calling of Matthew

“As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man named Matthew (Levi) sitting in the tax collector’s booth; and He said to him, “Follow Me [as My disciple, accepting Me as your Master and Teacher and walking the same path of life that I walk].” And Matthew got up and followed Him.” Matthew 9v9-10

Jesus’ earthly genealogy demonstrates God’s plan to bring about the salvation of humanity. Matthew shows us how, every step along the way, God had protected the bloodline…

The Mandate of John the Baptist

“In those days John the Baptist appeared, preaching in the Wilderness of Judea [along the western side of the Dead Sea] and saying, "Repent [change your inner self—your old way of thinking, regret past sins, live your life in a way that proves repentance; seek God’s purpose for your life], for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” This is the one who was mentioned by the prophet Isaiah when he said, "THE VOICE OF ONE SHOUTING IN THE WILDERNESS, ‘PREPARE THE ROAD FOR THE LORD,” Matthew 3v1-3

PREPARE THE ROAD FOR THE LORD. As roads were smoothed and straightened for the arrival of a king, so John was preparing a spiritual path for the Messiah. The quotation is…

The Mandate of the Prophet Habakkuk

“The oracle (a burdensome message—a pronouncement from God) which Habakkuk the prophet saw. O LORD, how long will I call for help And You will not hear? I cry out to You, “Violence!” Yet You do not save.” Habakkuk 1v1-2

Habakkuk’s openness and honesty in his relationship with God is refreshing. Like Job, Habakkuk brings his complaints and questions directly to the Lord.

    The Mandate of Jeremiah

“The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, [one] of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, to whom the word of the LORD came during the thirteenth year (627 B.C.) of the reign of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.” Jeremiah 1v1-12

Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying. This was a standard way of introducing a divine oracle at the beginning of a prophetic book. Jeremiah did not speak out of hi…

    The Gideon Mandate

“And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him and said to him, “The LORD is with you, O brave man.”” Judges 6v12

am the youngest (smallest) in my father’s house. Gideon’s objection is reminiscent of the words spoken by Moses (Ex 3:11) and Jeremiah (Jer 1:6).

    The Mandate of Samson

“For behold, you shall conceive and give birth to a son. No razor shall come upon his head, for the boy shall be a Nazirite [dedicated] to God from birth; and he shall begin to rescue Israel from the hands of the Philistines.”” Judges 13v5

No doubt about it, Samson was special. Before he had even been conceived, an angel of the Lord had set the stage for this man’s life (see Judges 13:3–5). Samson was a Naz…

    The Mandate of Elisha

“and you shall anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi as king over Israel; and anoint Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah as prophet in your place.” 1 Kings 19v16

The Elijah/Elisha association was similar to Jesus’ mentoring relationship with his disciples. Like Elisha, they had to drop everything to follow their mentor. But they s…

    The Mandate for Solomon

“even as I swore to you by the LORD, the God of Israel, saying, ‘Solomon your son shall certainly be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place’; I will indeed do so this very day.”” 1 Kings 1v30

King Solomon had more intellectual and material resources at his disposal than any other person in history, and yet none of it was enough. When he turned away from God, h…
