Set your Course with your Tongue
Pastor Zubeda Sing · 2 min read

“And the tongue is [in a sense] a fire, the very world of injustice and unrighteousness; the tongue is set among our members as that which contaminates the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life [the cycle of man’s existence], and is itself set on fire by hell (Gehenna). For every species of beasts and birds, of reptiles and sea creatures, is tamed and has been tamed by the human race. But no one can tame the human tongue; it is a restless evil [undisciplined, unstable], full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God.”
James, the brother of Jesus, just has a way with words. He says it so clearly that the tongue is a sense of fire, used incorrectly it can contaminate the entire body and sets on fire the course of our lives. When a heart is untamed, so the tongue to becomes a world of injustice and unrighteousness. One word spoken to someone, with a bad attitude, or a cutting remark can cause damage that can set a relationship aflame. If you want to maintain good relationships, let the Holy Spirit tame your tongue so you choose your words wisely.
A tamed tongue is forged in prayer. Just like gold is forged in fire, your tongue becomes meet for the master’s use. In your prayer time, the holy spirit teaches your tongue how to respond to the presence of God, teaching you to be thankful and sing a song rather than complain or fault find.
