A Tamed Tongue
Pastor Zubeda Sing · 2 min read

“But no one can tame the human tongue; it is a restless evil [undisciplined, unstable], full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God. Out of the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. These things, my brothers, should not be this way [for we have a moral obligation to speak in a manner that reflects our fear of God and profound respect for His precepts].”
What a statement. No one can tame a human tongue. A wild animal can be tamed, a large elephant can be tamed, yet a human tongue cannot be tamed. What an indictment. A scarry thought. Yet a man or woman who has yielded their hearts to God, finds themselves being retrained in the way they speak and respond in relationships and in their relationship with God. As we start out this walk of salvation, we may be people who speak out whatever we want to say. We may find ourselves pretty sarcastic at time and also very judgemental. However, the master takes us under his wing and slowly shapes us and tames us. As we walk in our daily lives, we begin to see that we are no longer unruly with our tongues, we are more patient and think carefully before we speak a word. It’s a slow long journey, yield to it, because where you are going in this life, your tongue will help you open the doors to the greatest things God has instore for you.
If you fail and make a mistake with your words, do not feel bad, learn to say I am sorry quickly and go before the Father, he will teach you. We are all growing and learning each day. Unfortunately some words we can never take back so be quick to apologise.
