Prosperity May Test Character More Than Poverty

About this recording

The opening of the Father's Day service of 21 June 2026: the Faith Chronicle, praise and worship, the welcome, the announcements and the word on the offering. The message that follows is in the separate recording of that service.

The Faith Chronicle is "Abide in the Vine" from John 15:5. As the branch draws sap from the vine it becomes strong enough to hold the fruit, and the fruit is the life you get to share with other people. Meekness is not weakness, it is power under control. The line he repeats is that the thriver thrives in bearing fruit.

The welcome reads Isaiah 43:2 and puts it plainly: this is not an exemption, it is a companion. You are not exempt from the waters or the fire. God is in them with you.

The word on the offering is the one worth staying for. From Deuteronomy 6:10-13, where Israel is given cities it did not build, wells it did not dig and vineyards it did not plant, and then warned about what happens after it eats and is satisfied. Prosperity may be a greater test of character than poverty, because poverty limits the options and some vices simply cannot be funded, while prosperity removes the constraint, magnifies what is already inside and tests whether humility survives.

Confession made with the church

Holy Spirit, I remain in you as you remain in me, and produce a harvest of Spirit filled fruit that brings people to the Kingdom of God. My organic fruit Spirit is a soul winner formula that God uses to add people to the Kingdom.

In this message

  1. 1Abide in the vine. The sap makes the branch strong enough to carry fruit, and the fruit is what you share with others
  2. 2Meekness is not weakness. It is power under control
  3. 3Isaiah 43:2 is not an exemption from the water and the fire, it is a companion inside them
  4. 4Your destiny is linked to your most dominant confession, so do not give up on the brink of the miracle
  5. 5Come with an expectation, a Bible, a notebook and a pen, and participate rather than spectate
  6. 6Israel was given what it did not build or plant, and warned about forgetting the Lord once it had eaten and was satisfied
  7. 7Prosperity removes the constraints that poverty placed on a person's vices
  8. 8Success does not change people. It unmasks what was already there
  9. 9We are not self made. Remember the source, especially when everything looks good
