A Healing Tongue

Pastor Zubeda Sing · 2 min read

“There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword, But the tongue of the wise brings healing”
Prov 12v18

When I read the above scripture, I want to shout out, “guilty as charged” because in my foolish days, my words were spoken rashly, like the thrust of a sword. My mouth had no filter. I thought something and I just said it. I just believed I was right and the other person was wrong so I just used cutting words. I never realised just how much damaging my words were . I do not think I have arrived, but I can surely say, the Holy Spirit has been at work in me. My tongue is being trained by the Holy Spirit and in my prayer time, the holy spirit leads me to scripture that he wants me to notice. I allow my the discipline to learn and understand the scripture. It is not easy to recognise that you are so desperately in need of help. Once you embrace the correction of the Holy Spirit, you find your tongue now becomes an instrument of healing.

You begin to heal people with your words, instead of criticising them, you find words to speak healing to them. You learn to adjust your words and use more words that build people up. The reward of the change, is to see the smile on people’s faces when you build them up and give them the courage to go on. Sometimes your words have to be a little direct, but the Holy Spirit sets it up so you are able to speak at the right time, with the right words.

The Thriver knows how to speak words that are appropriate and build others all the time. They give up on the luxury of being angry and of speaking words that break down. None of us have the right to judge or break down people. We are a people who bring reconciliation.
