A Disciplined Tongue
Pastor Zubeda Sing · 2 min read

“But I tell you, on the day of judgment people will have to give an accounting for every careless or useless word they speak.”
When we read this, it sounds very scarry. We will be held accountable for every idle word we speak. This is especially difficult for those who are extremely sociable. They are always on the phone who chatting to people. They cannot be without company. If they are facing a difficulty, it is totally normal for them to seek out people to talk to and explain what they are going through. They are always talking to someone. The conversation can steer from gossip to criticism to even being judgemental. It’s as if they have a compulsive need to speak at all times, regardless of the circumstances. The above scripture states clearly we will have to give an account of every careless and useless word spoken.
The disciplined tongue, however, knows when to speak and when not to speak. This is not done by their own strength. A decision was taken to speak less. Actually they may have prayed for a disciplined tongue but they have to go through the process to have their tongues disciplined. The process is not easy as there will be many opportunities for them to react to people who annoy them. It seems as if it is a set up after you pray but it’s not, only our God can enable them and cause them to have a disciplined tongue. Challenges and difficult situations are the practice sessions to practice our growth in having a disciplined tongue. This is a decision first of all, we then consult the Holy Spirit to assist us and when we overcome our undisciplined tongue it gets easier and easier as the time goes by.
A thriver has spent time in the presence of God and gives themselves over to the Holy Spirit to bring them in line.
