A Mature Tongue

“Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity”
The Apostle Paul was speaking to Timothy and training him on leadership. He knew that as a young man he would be ministering to many older folk so it was necessary for Timothy to grow up spiritually and be mature so no one would despise his youth. A young man can be outspoken and be very brash in sharing the good news of the gospel. Paul said to Timothy he should be careful to be a man worthy of his call. He was anointed to lead the church he had been called to but it would require him to let the Holy Spirit mature him and mature his tongue.
Timothy had a task to shepherd and lead God’s people and in his calling he would have to speak to many kinds of people. It would benefit him greatly if he used a mature tongue to communicate the message God gave to him so many could be built up and come to salvation.
Family of God we too are called to grow in Christ, to go from weak faith to strong faith. We need to mature so we become effective in our calling. The more mature our tongue, the greater the victory. We become skillfull even in our prayer life when we mature.
A thriver is a man/woman with a mature tongue. The Holy Spirit is the only one that can mature us.
