A Gracious Tongue

“Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man”
Paul so aptly describes how our manner of speech should be. He is careful to instruct us to always speak with grace, to be gracious in our speech. To communicate effectively at home and at work, we need to use our words wisely, seasoned with salt so we know how to answer every man/woman well. Jesus is grace and truth so the grace on our lives should assist us to have a gracious tongue as we are seated with Christ in heavenly places. Our conversation should be influenced by what we hear him say. We are the company we keep, so if we keep company with Jesus then our words should reflect him as we speak.
One of the most difficult things to train is our tongue. We are told to have our say, but what does that really do for us. First of all not everyone can understand what you are saying. They may speak the same language as you, but they come from different mindsets so even when you speak, some of the words you are saying just fly over their heads, some hear you but it goes in one ear and goes out the other. Try talking to your children and see if they listen. Even our children have their own minds and generally want to do whatever they want to do.
There is an anointing that abides in us and we need to ask the Holy Spirit to teach us how to speak graciously. We need to ask him to make our words weighty and effective. We need to ask him for favour when we communicate so the person or persons listening to us will heed what we are saying. In our own strength we will never be perfect in our communication so let us engage the Holy Spirit in our speaking daily.
The thriver speaks graciously but it is a training they develop in the secret place with the Holy Spirit.
