The Attitude of the Heart

Pastor Zubeda Sing · 2 min read

“But You, O LORD, know me [and understand my devotion to You]; You see me; And You examine the attitude of my heart toward You.”
Jeremiah 12v3

The Lord examines our attitude at any given time. What is this word attitude?

You hear parents say this to their children and also adults saying it to other adults. So lets examine this word attitude:

Attitude is a way thinking, feeling or behaving towards a people, person, thing or ideas.

It reflects our inner view point which can be positive, negative or neutral.

Our feelings show how a particular idea or subject matter makes us feel emotionally.

Our thinking is really what we believe.

Our behaviour is based on how we act according to our feelings and believing.

God is interested in our attitude. Our attitude towards God reflects in our behaviour and our responses. He knows our love for him but his love for us never changes. However, he allows the Holy Spirit access to go in and make changes in this area of our attitude. The holy Spirit will bring conviction where our attitude needs an adjustment and it is up to us to respond to the Holy Spirit. If we want to remain as we are with an attitude that is now receiving of the presence of God to accommodate the change needed to realign us, then there will be no pressure from God to do the transformation. We will not just stay the same, but we will retrogress in our spiritual walk with God. A good heart attitude is what attracts the presence of God and the rewards are enormous. It benefits every area of our lives.

A bad attitude however, is where we are acting rude, unco-operative or disrespectful. Generally, having a bad attitude is when you are bold, arrogant or reflect defensive behaviour.

Our attitude is reflected even in the way our body is positioned physically or the stance we take.

The responsibility for the attitude is entirely up to us. We decide what kind of attitude we have and how we will respond to God and man. A man or woman who has a good God attitude can attract the blessings of God coming to them easily in answered prayer.

A bad attitude has consequences which none of us like so it is a mature response to have a good attitude always.

A thriver always has a good attitude as they are positioning themselves for greatness.
