A Repentant Heart

Pastor Zubeda Sing · 2 min read

“Therefore, thus says the LORD [to Jeremiah], “If you repent [and give up this mistaken attitude of despair and self-pity], then I will restore you [to a state of inner peace]”
Jeremiah 15v19

Once again we are asked to give up this mistaken attitude of ours. We are asked to repent. What is it about a bad attitude? Does is grieve the Holy Spirit? What are the consequences of a bad unrepentant attitude?

As we ponder these questions, we realise how important a good attitude is to a fruitful life. A life that benefits from God daily. If our attitude is bad, we find it very hard to repent. If we do not repent God cannot restore us to a state of inner peace. Actually, we are inviting chaos and disaster. The person or situation is dependent on our attitude so we need to work on our attitude, especially our attitude to God and the people he places over us. Why do I say this?

Children, obey your parents in the Lord [that is, accept their guidance and discipline as His representatives], for this is right [for obedience teaches wisdom and self-discipline]. HONOR [esteem, value as precious] YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER [and be respectful to them]—this is the first commandment with a promise— SO THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU, AND THAT YOU MAY HAVE A LONG LIFE ON THE EARTH. Eph 6v1-3

Servants, in everything obey those who are your masters on earth, not only with external service, as those who merely please people, but with sincerity of heart because of your fear of the Lord. Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [greatest] reward. Colossians 3v 22-23

I could quote so much more but I think the point has been made as to a repentant heart that comes from a good attitude. The bad attitude has consequences, whilst the good attitude attracts the blessing that makes rich, and adds no sorrow.
