The Word is a Lamp

The word of God is a lamp. In the days of old, the lamp meant a candle that is lit to bring light. In our day, there is a galaxy of lights all around us. Have you walked into a light store and seen what beautiful lamps there are. A lamp is only effective when a room is dark. In the same way, when our lives are filled with darkness, despair, grief and hopelessness, we should meditate and understand the word of God so the darkness in our hearts is all light up. The word shows us what is actually in our hearts and it dispels the darkness.

The light comes in and shows us where we are at. The word gives direction so we know where we are going. The light of the word shows us the obstacles on our course so we can avoid them. The word is the wisdom given to us by God to discern things and not make mistakes. The light of the word opens up the world to us so that we can make good decisions and avoid people that are not good for us. The light of the word helps us in our relationships.
