My Purpose is Fulfilled as I Make Myself Available

Pastor Wesley & Yajhna Sing · 2 min read

“When the time came, we set sail for Italy. Paul and several other prisoners were placed in the custody of a Roman officer named Julius, a captain of the Imperial Regiment. Aristarchus, a Macedonian from Thessalonica, was also with us. We left on a ship whose home port was Adramyttium on the northwest coast of the province of Asia; it was scheduled to make several stops at ports along the coast of the province.”
Acts 27v1-2

Paul was a prisoner who was sent on a boat to Italy for sentencing. Luke joined him on the journey. In the first line of this scripture the word “we” is used. The we included Luke the physician, his close friend and companion. Luke was committed to Paul and more committed to the gospel. Nothing could stop him from serving Paul. He chose to accompany Paul as he was so blessed by the ministry of Paul and he was called for the purpose of serving Paul. Luke wrote the gospel of Luke and the book of acts. His love and dedication to the kingdom of God, drew him away from his calling as a doctor to follow Paul where ever he went. His purpose was for him to record all the writings of Paul and allow us in the future to read the very words of the apostle. He made himself available. He profited the kingdom of God by. Making himself available caused our growth into the future. Thank you, brother Luke.

In the order of priority in our life, rarely is the kingdom of God and the work of the kingdom a priority. Luke could have felt a feeling of superiority because he was a physician. Not at all. Luke put his love for God and the ministry ahead of his career as a doctor. He was willing to make the sacrifice and make himself available. Are you?
