The Peace of a Thriver

Pastor Zubeda Sing · 2 min read

“Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church. And when Herod was about to bring him out, that night Peter was sleeping, bound with two chains between two soldiers; and the guards before the door were keeping the prison.”
Acts 12v5-6

Peter for most part was a man who acted on what he felt so the description of him in many of the commentaries was that he was very impetuous and a man who was not very rational. Jesus changed all of that for him. He let Jesus in. He welcomed the Holy Spirit and allowed the Holy Spirit to work on his personality. He was rebuked by Jesus and also told that he was the rock upon which Jesus would build his church. Here was a man who knew chaos, anger and criticism, yet Peter kept moving forward. He was a thriver. Trouble never bothered him, he took on challenges as they came and even when Jesus asked him three times, in front of everyone I might add, “Peter, do you love me”. He rose to the occasion. Peter was a thriver. The above scripture tells us Peter was locked up in prison and he was going to be beheaded the next day. Yet in the midst of all of this, Peter was at peace, he even fell asleep, deeply asleep. He was so fast asleep that the angel had to hit him quite hard to wake him up. A thriver never lets trouble, trouble them. A thriver allows the trouble to bring growth into their lives. (take time to read this passage and be motivated). Peter was at peace, because he knew God would come through for him.

A thriver understands that there will be troubles and there will be challenges, but the drive to thrive rules his heart by the Holy Spirit. Fear comes but the thriver overcomes fear, because he/she knows that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love and power and a sound mind. The thriver lets the sound mind grow in peace. They pursue peace at all costs. They are peace makers. The thriver understands that the peace of God is the breathing ground for a thriver.
