Power of Influence

Pastor Zubeda Sing · 2 min read

“And Gideon sent messengers throughout all mount Ephraim, saying, Come down against the Midianites, and take before them the waters unto Bethbarah and Jordan. Then all the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and took the waters unto Bethbarah and Jordan. And they took two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side Jordan.”
Judges 7v24

Gideon claimed he was the least of his tribe. He could not believe that God would choose a man like him to lead his people, let alone go to war with three hundred men against an army of thousands. He put a fleece before the Lord just to prove that it was God talking to him. Even though he did not believe in himself, God believed in him, He knew his plan for Gideon’s life. The moment Gideon stepped into his calling and yielded to the voice of God, the men God sent him to, listened and followed Gideon. Gideon was a man of influence, not because of how good he was, but because of how good God was.

Many of us know that we are called and have giftings operating in our lives, but we hold back because we do not believe that God could use someone like us. We have an inferiority complex and prefer to remain in the background, in case we embarrass ourselves or fail to perform our duties perfectly. This call of God is not about perfection, it is about obedience. God knows exactly what he has put on the inside of you. He has created only one you, you are unique and you are his beloved. He alone has enabled you and given you the power to do all He has called you to do. He has ordered your footsteps and he is ever present in your life. Do not give in to fear or feel intimidated. You are unique, you are special and you are a person of influence. You have the power to influence every person God has called you to.

Gideon never thought that he could do what God had called him to do, but God knew the end of the story. He was successful with the three hundred men God allowed him to influence. They defeated the enemy. It may not have started out with confidence, but God was the majority that was with him, giving him power to overcome.
