Consciously Understanding
Pastor Zubeda Sing · 2 min read

“Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?”
These are the words of Solomon when he became king. He went to God and asked God for understanding so that he could be an effective leader. Instead of asking for a long life or wealth or power, Solomon pleased the Lord by requesting a discerning heart of wisdom. Because he focused on this, the Lord also granted him what he did not request.
To be successful in this life, a heart of understanding is absolutely necessary. In every aspect of life, we are surrounded by people. If we own our own business, we need customers. To win customers we need to communicate effectively. Understanding causes us to respond in a way that attracts people to the product or service we are selling. We need to understand the market we will be servicing and the needs of the people in that particular market. An understanding of the market makes our work a lot easier.
Understanding gives us the ability to grasp or comprehend a situation or people. Understanding gives us a sympathetical awareness of people and their needs. The spirit of understanding that resides on the inside of us, makes tolerant and forgiving of others. This spirit of understanding has been given to us by the Holy Spirit and is operative in our lives. We need to consciously allow this spirit to work in us so we are more successful in our relationships.
There is also an understanding of the times we are living in. We need to understand the timing of addressing a subject with someone or when to be quiet. Understanding plays a vital role in our everyday life. Understanding is a characteristic in our lives that adds value where ever we go.
