Rest in the Chaos

Pastor Zubeda Sing · 2 min read

“The very night before Herod was to bring him forward, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries were in front of the door guarding the prison. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared [beside him] and a light shone in the cell. The angel struck Peter’s side and awakened him, saying, “Get up quickly!” And the chains fell off his hands.”
Acts 12v6-7

This is an amazing account of the rest of God. Peter was in jail, he was jailed by Herod and about to be put to death the next day. However, when you read the account of what transpired, it amazes me that Peter could fall asleep between the soldiers. He did not just fall asleep, he was deeply asleep. The angel of the Lord had to strike him to get up and get dressed so the angel could escort him out of the jail. The church was praying for him at the time.

Peter was fully aware that he was about to be put to death the very next day. Surely, this was a time for him to be anxious or even questioning God. Questions like “why would you let me die Lord, I am preaching the gospel and winning many souls”? No, not Peter, he had grown from an anxious, angry man, to a man who had learned to rest in God. He had experienced the deliverance of Jesus first hand. He had become a dispenser of healing and salvation to the multitudes. He had learned to rest in chaos, because he had proved God and seen Him do mighty miracles, again and again.

In the midst of chaos, challenges, hard times, grief, difficulties or even lack and insufficiency, Jesus is our Shepherd, we shall not want. However, we have to allow ourselves to grow in the peace of God, we need to allow the Holy Spirit to help us enter into the rest of God. Once we grow in to knowing and believing that our God is able, we too will have rest in chaos. We will understand fully that our God has our back and He will never fail.
