Lead a Simple Life

Dr RJ Sing · 1 min read

“And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”
Luke 12:15

One of our friends who regularly visits Mozambique told us that the Mozambicans think that the visitors have a lot of possessions even though they usually only have a small tent and some clothes. This makes one think about how little some people have to get by with and how much we have.

Our houses are filled with appliances we seldom use; and our cupboards are filled with clothes we haven’t worn in years and we often buy things we don’t really need. Sometimes we buy things to impress other people. Perhaps we should decide to lead a more simple life; to learn to rid ourselves of those things that we no longer use; to buy only those things that we really need, & to give the things we don’t need to those who really need them.

How attached are you to your worldly possessions? Always bear in mind that your life does not consist in the abundance of your possessions. Make sure that your treasures are in the right place in heaven where moths and rust cannot destroy.
