The Word of God is a Fire to Refine

Dr RJ Sing · 2 min read

“[Is] not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer [that] breaketh the rock in pieces?”
Jeremiah 23:29

The Word of God is indeed a great purifier, which destroys all that is false. When one speaks of fire, we immediately think of something alight, blazing or burning. When one is born again, there is combustion in his/her spirit. When you encounter a newly born Christian, they are usually very excited and full of enthusiasm. There is fervency about their newfound faith. As they speak and interact with other’s, words like “passion, sparkle, radiance, vigour, vivacity” and the like all come to mind.

That person’s heart is on fire. Why? The Word of God has entered into that heart and combustion took place. That is why the Prophet Jeremiah asks, *“Is not my Word like as a fire? When your heart and life is on fire for God, everyone will come watch you burn. Lives around you are changed and sinners get converted. The depressed are loosed and evil spirits are dispelled. When you open your mouth to speak, your words are “Fire Words”. It is those “Fire Words” that melts hearts and lives that are hardened with sin. Praise God! So make sure that you do God’s Word and make your life count. Let us consider the following Scripture: “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.” Luke 6:46-48.*
