Sermon outline
How you handle any problem is decided first in your mind, so like Jairus and the woman with the issue of blood, override the culture and your own thinking, renew your mind by the Word, and only believe.
Main text
- Mark 5:21-43
- Isaiah 26:3
Opening
She greets the Rhema family online and says the subject heavy on her heart is the mind, because the greatest battle you face is there. She tells viewers to take a breath and step back: this is not a religious activity but God, who is in them and for them, asking for a moment of their time.
The greatest battle you face is your mind
How you deal with a problem depends first on the state of your mind, and a troubled mind will never overcome. Jesus invites the weary and heavy laden to come to Him for rest, and God keeps in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him. A cluttered mind has no peace, and no peace means constant stress, so you must choose to let the Spirit calm your mind.
“If we are troubled in our minds, you'll find that you will never overcome. The greatest battle that you face is your mind.”
- Matthew 11:28
- Isaiah 26:3
Jairus overrode his mind and his culture
As a ruler of the synagogue, Jairus belonged among the critics of Jesus, and going to Him risked being shut out by his own circle. But his daughter was at the point of death, so he stepped outside his thinking, his culture and what the doctors said, and made a demand on the ability of God. Be continually renewed in the spirit of your mind, and do not subject yourself to the norms of the world.
“You have to override what your mind is telling you and go according to what the Word of God is telling you.”
- Mark 5:21-24
- Ephesians 4:23-24
- Romans 10:17
- Romans 12:3
The woman with the issue of blood set a goal
By law she was unclean and had no right to be among people, and after twelve years she had spent everything on physicians and perhaps lost her marriage, her household help and her friends. But she heard the testimony of Jesus and decided that if she touched the hem of His garment she would be made whole. The crowd did not put her off, and she probably did not even know He was on His way to Jairus' house.
“You and God are more than enough.”
- Mark 5:25-28
- Genesis 22:14
Your faith can stop Jesus on the road
With a crowd thronging Him and Jairus' daughter waiting, Jesus stopped and asked who touched Him, because a woman's faith that had gone through twelve years of fire drew virtue out of Him. Nervous but unashamed, she told Him her issue, and there was a divine exchange: she handed Him her issue and He gave her His healing. God is asking you the same question: what is your issue?
“Do you think you can make a difference to God? Indeed.”
- Mark 5:29-34
Only believe
When word came that the girl was dead, Jairus did not cancel Jesus or join the mourners; he held on to "only believe". Jesus took only Peter, James and John, people of faith, into a dead situation, raised the girl and told them to feed her. Do not let circumstances cloud your mind or rob you of your faith.
“Jesus chose faith people to go with Him to a dead situation.”
- Mark 5:35-43
- Luke 18:27
Renew your mind and speak to the storm
As long as you think as the world thinks, you are conforming to it. Let the mind of Christ be in you and align your thinking with God's higher thoughts. You cannot stop a storm coming, but you can still it, and what matters is how you respond and what you learn, so speak to your finances, your body and your mountain.
“You cannot stop the storm coming your way, but you can still the storm.”
- Romans 12:2
- Philippians 2:5
- Isaiah 55:9
- Mark 11:23
- Mark 4:39
- Isaiah 53:5
- Psalm 23:1
Arise and let go of the past
She speaks to the dead things in viewers' lives, lost jobs, finances, sickness, marriages strained during Covid, and depression, and tells them to come up out of the ashes. Maybe the trauma was real, but holding on to it brings the past into the present and mars the future. The woman held on for twelve years and let it go; the righteous man falls seven times and rises again.
Illustration: Do not look only in the field you trained for when you look for a job; God may have something else for you.

Putting it into practice
- Give God a moment of your time and let Him calm a cluttered mind
- Override cultural and personal thinking that keeps you from going to Jesus
- Tell God plainly what your issue is
- Speak to the storm, the sickness, the finances and the dead things in your life
- Let go of past trauma that is stealing your present and your future
Closing
She tells viewers that God is bringing them back to a greater stage and that they can lay down fear, sickness and lack and pick up faith, healing and overflow. She invites anyone who does not know Jesus to receive Him, leads a short prayer of salvation, and explains salvation as wholeness, fullness, abundance and overflow.
Declarations to say aloud
- Stop. Enough is enough. I've held onto you for so long. You've caused me to be conformed to many ways, but I'm letting you go, and I'm walking in the footsteps that Jesus has called for me. I'm walking into the newness of life. God has great things in store for me. I'm going to possess them. I'm going to apprehend them.
- Yes, things have happened. Yes, I've lost stuff. Yes, I've let go of some stuff. But you know what? There's plenty more in store.
- Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. Today, I acknowledge that I have sinned, but I welcome you as Lord of my life. Come in and save me. Come, Holy Spirit, fill me now, that I may walk in the fullness of the blessing of God.
