The Called Man Apollos

Pastor Zubeda Sing · 2 min read

“Now a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an eloquent and cultured man, and well versed in the [Hebrew] Scriptures. This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and being spiritually impassioned, he was speaking and teaching accurately the things about Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John;”
Acts 8v24-25

When Paul speaks of Apollos, he used the following, I sowed the seed of the word and Apolos watered this word by the ministry of the gospel, doing mighty signs wonders and miracles.

As Priscilla and Aquila had befriended Paul in Corinth, so they now befriended Apollos in Ephesus. But they did more than merely befriend Apollos; “they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately” (v. 26). Apollos eventually went on to Achaia, better equipped because of this couple’s contribution to his knowledge, faith and ministry.

Apollos was a learned Jew from Alexandria who enthusiastically shared his knowledge of Jesus with others. When confronted about the content of his message, Apollos willingly received further instruction in his faith and became one of the major leaders of the Corinthian church.

The mandate never changes, the word to all of us is to go and make disciples of all nations but God uses each of us according to our personality and calling, just like Apollos, Priscilla and Aquilla. Be ready to fulfil the call on your life, it may come knocking on the door of your life in the most amazing way. Just step out and step up into who God has called you to be.
