The Inner Beauty of the Heart

Pastor Zubeda Sing · 2 min read

“but let it be [the inner beauty of] the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality and unfading charm of a gentle and peaceful spirit, [one that is calm and self-controlled, not overanxious, but serene and spiritually mature] which is very precious in the sight of God”
1 Peter 3v4

In this world of ours, too much emphasis is placed on the outside of a man or woman, how we dress, how we look, how fashionable our clothes are. We work on the best makeup to look our best but very little is given to the hidden person of the heart.

The bible says, Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades.

The woman to be admired and praised

is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-GOD. (Prov 31)

As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout,

so is a fair woman which is without discretion.

I am not sure why the word only describes a woman who is empty headed that acts without discretion but I guess the Holy Spirit is trying to make a point to us that we should focus more on developing our relationship with God than keep the outer person beautiful and well dressed as if we got everything together.

The heart is desperately wicked, who can know it is what the bible says, but of a surety our God has sent a healer, a restorer, a fixer and a builder of men, the Holy Spirit. We can move from hard heart to a heart that yearns for the presence of the Father. We are of them that seek the inner beauty of the heart. We are of those who desire a beautiful heart that attracts our God.

The thriver is one who has allowed themselves to be shaped by the Holy Spirit, a heart hungering after God.
