Encourage Yourself in the Lord

Pastor Zubeda Sing · 2 min read

“Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God”
1 Sam 30v6

The group of men who formed the army of David had now turned against him as their tent had been broken into and their wives and children taken, whilst they were out fighting with David. They were speaking of stoning him. What mental trauma must David have been going through. He had just overcome the attack of Saul on his life and now the trouble was internal. He was so overwhelmed within himself as he had no one on his side, or so he thought. He did what he knew best to do. Encourage himself in the Lord. God was with him when he was a shepherd of the sheep and He was with him now. He knew God intimately, so much so that God called him “a man after his own heart”. God delighted in David and the word of God dwelled richly in David. Hence, David was able to encourage himself in the Lord.

Family of God, we need to practice the presence of God by pray constantly, in our hearts, in our minds and whisper silent prayers even in the midst of our busy days. Whilst standing in a queue in a shop or walking in a busy shopping mall, meditate on the word of God and fill your heart with his presence. Encourage yourself in the word of God, you will get stronger and stronger. Please enjoy the presence of God in the good times and delight in him so when the challenges come, you are comfortable in the courts of the Lord so you go directly and draw the strength you need.

A thriver, knows this place of safety and comfort, so a thriver constantly encourages himself/herself in the Lord. It is the safest city to dwell in.
