The Blessing Peace

Pastor Zubeda Sing · 2 min read

“Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him.”
1 Samuel 1v17

This scripture refers to a conversation between the prophet Eli and the wife of Elkana, her name was Hannah. Hannah was barren and could not have children. Her vision was to have a child. In her current state this was impossible. She was barren and had been wanting a child for a long, long time. She was laughed at and mocked for not having children, by the rest of the household, yet her husband loved her. She could see herself as a mother of children but yet she had none. She decided to take the matter to the Lord as she needed peace in this situation. She needed divine intervention. She needed a miracle. She even makes a promise that, should God give her a child, she would dedicate him to the Lord and hand him over to the temple as soon as he was weaned. The Priest thought she was drunk as she was opening and closing her mouth without saying anything. At the risk of being laughed to scorn, she expressed her vision, her desire, her need and want before the priest as she was desperate.

This risky declaration of her dream and vision, triggered the word of the Lord in the mouth of the prophet. She got her divine intervention. He gave her a word that she would have a child and at the appointed time, she conceived and brought forth a son. It was impossible in the natural, but she tapped into God’s miracle power when she decided to take the risk and make her request to the priest. It was not comfortable to expose her weakness, yet it was necessary to seek divine intervention.

She was at peace after the word of the prophet and when her vision was fulfilled, she too, fulfilled the promise she had made and brought the child to the temple to serve the Lord. It cost her, yet her obedience, brought her many more children after her first request was fulfilled. Our God is amazing. He wants to be involved in our planning and vision. He wants our vision and plan to be clear, so he can work with and for us. The results will always be amazing.
