The Thriver – the Giver

Pastor Zubeda Sing · 2 min read

“And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.”
Acts 4v36-37

I stand amazed at how God changes the heart of man or woman. Once you receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and invite the Holy Spirit into your life, the change in your life is radical. Looking at the life of Barnabas, one could see he was man of substance, he had lands and other material wealth, but the wealth did not own him after he started to walk with God. When he got saved, he really had a 360 degree turnaround in his life. He was radically saved. God was more than enough for him. He was not only known as the son of encouragement but he was known as a giver. He was a thriver. Nothing held him back.

The rich young ruler in the gospels was offended when Jesus told him to sell all he had and give it to the poor and then he could inherit the kingdom of God. It was not so for Barnabas. He gave his all. He sold his property and brought the money and laid it at the Apostle’s feet. What a giver. He never considered keeping some for himself for his daily needs or his future. He knew his future was secure in God. Barnabas was of the tribe of Levite, this would tell you he came from the tribe of priests. He was still a prosperous man who understood the needs of the kingdom.

As a Thriver, we are givers. We are first fruit givers, we are partners with the kingdom of God and we also find it in our hearts to honour our priest, the man of God that feeds us the word of God, just like Barnabas did. We know how valuable our partnership with the house of God is. Jesus is the Lord of our lives and also of our finances.

If you are not already a partner with the house of God or only sowing seed now and then, I suggest strongly you allow the Holy Spirit to teach you in this area. The bible says, where your heart is, your treasure is also. To be a thriver, it is essential to be a partner and seed sower in the kingdom of God. Cultivate giving in your life, so much so, that you automatically give to the house of God from whatever income you receive. It is God who gives us the power to get wealth.
