I Am a Team Player

Pastor Zubeda Sing · 3 min read

“Walking along the beach of Lake Galilee, Jesus saw two brothers: Simon (later called Peter) and Andrew. They were fishing, throwing their nets into the lake. It was their regular work. Jesus said to them, “Come with me. I’ll make a new kind of fisherman out of you. I’ll show you how to catch men and women instead of perch and bass.” They didn’t ask questions, but simply dropped their nets and followed.”
Matthew 4v198-20

Jesus was the son of God, He was divinity in humanity. God had given him a mandate to come into the world and die on the cross, to reconcile man, back to God. As he journeyed through his life and began the ministry He was called to, He realized, I cannot do this on my own. I need help. Amazing hey? The son of God needing help. He was wise and He knew that to make his mission easier, He needed the help of earth beings to assist. He could not do everything himself, nor did he want to. He wanted a family and He needed to understand how this earth family lived and operated in their everyday life. What better way than to engage men and women who would make his work lighter. He recognized the calling and gifting on Peter and His brother as well as the other disciples, hence he called them and began to pour out his life into them. Each one of them played a part in this team and fulfilled a part that was necessary to make the mission a success. Peter was the rock, John was his most beloved disciple who walked in love. He needed a treasurer so he called Judas. He need someone who understood money matters and tax, so he called Matthew the tax collector. These men were leaders and were able to lead others. They may not have been the most famous or most talented but they were who He needed. He worked with them and accomplished his mission. He was about his Father’s business and this was the people His Father loved.

Family, we need each other. There are people placed in our lives that God knows that we need. We cannot do this life alone. We are not an island and we cannot be too independent. Being too independent allows you to only go so far and the mission you are called to will not be accomplished. This is where the fruit of the spirit on your life helps you to love and tolerate others. We need each other. Give people a chance to prove themselves. We do not have all the giftings necessary for us to fulfill our purpose. Allow the giftings around you to assist. They may not be perfect but as you work together and train and develop others, your work becomes easier and the team members become indispensable.

In the work environment and in the market place, even the most difficult people are a necessary part of our journey. Our difficult children are part of the process. We need each other so make up your mind, I am a team player and I am ready to accept others to help train and develop them to reach their full potential.
