Grace to Step Up

“And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for today I must abide at thy house. And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner. And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.”
Zacchaeus was a notorious tax collector. He was not a man much liked by the community because of his way of doing business. When he heard about Jesus he was really curious about him so he decided to go and see what the fuss was about. He really wanted to find out what was so great about Jesus. His curiosity was richly reward. He had to make an effort to get to Jesus as he was a rather short man. He was a famous man but even that did not stop him. He realized he had to do something out of the ordinary to get to Jesus. He saw the tree and decided to step up into the tree so he could satisfy his curiosity. His climbing the tree, was what got Jesus’s attention. His unorthodox approach, got the attention of Jesus and he said to him that he should come down as he would have a meal with him. He had to do something out of the ordinary to tap into the extra-ordinary. He had to do the natural to activate the supernatural.
When he met Jesus, no demands were made on him, however the anointing on the anointed one, changed him from the inside out. He was willing to give half of his good to the poor and also reimburse fourfold if he had taken anything as a result of false accusation. He stepped up to get into the tree, but he also stepped up to take responsibility for his notorious ways. Only Jesus can make a man or woman change.
Family of God, we too will be called to step up and step out to get the benefits of the kingdom activated on our lives. Take a leaf out of Zacchaeus book and step up.
