Obedience is Better Than Sacrifice

Saul was a king chosen by the people. God anointed him but he was just not up to the task. His decision making left much to be desired. In this case he had come with the all of Israel to make a sacrifice unto the Lord. Instead of waiting for the prophet Samuel to make the offering unto the Lord, he went ahead on his own against the word of the Lord, and made the offering himself. This was not his place to do this. Samuel was angry with him for his impatience and his disobedience. This decision cost him, so dearly. God said to Samuel that he had lifted the mantle off King Saul and would now anoint David as King. A simple decision of disobedience, impatience and total disregard of law and order cost him his kingship. What a price to pay.

It seems like such a small thing that would attract such a high cost. To God, obedience to his will and way is far more importance than sacrifice. Jesus came to give us grace so we are freed from the Law. However, our obedience to his word brings the greatest blessing over our lives. Our obedience attracts his blessing in every area of our lives.
