The Saul Mandate

Pastor Zubeda Sing · 1 min read

“Samuel said to all the people, “Do you see him whom the LORD has chosen? For there is no one like him among all the people.” So all the people shouted and said, “Long live the king!””
1 Samuel 10v24

In obedience to God, Samuel anointed Saul as Israel’s first king. The people of Israel did not want direct contact with God so they requested that they be given a king to rule over them. Saul did not serve God faithfully. He failed to obey God. the prophet Samuel had to inform Saul that “your kingdom will not endure . . . because you have not kept the LORD’s command” (13:14).

Saul disobeyed God’s specific commands as given through Samuel and disqualified himself from being Israel’s king. When he failed in his duty as king, he always justified his actions and distorted God’s intentions. Disobedience to God always leads to lost opportunity.

The mandate given is not always clear, however the willingness to trust and obey the commands of God and then those of the leadership he has placed over you, will lead to destruction and pain.

Always trust and obey and keep your heart open to listen to the voice of instruction, it keeps you always in the will of God.
