Sermon outline
Every divine vision begins with a burden and is built by obedience, and God's hand carries it through by His grace, through opposition, under His protection and with His provision.

Opening
The recording joins the Faith Chronicle on the love walk, which says our love walk helps our love talk, and the church makes its confession. The speaker prays that the vision would be built not by might nor by power but by God's Spirit, asking for grace, protection and provision and for the church to be of one mind. After worship the theme is announced: grace, protection and provision for the vision.
Every divine vision begins with a burden
A burden is not something tedious but a deep yearning and burning passion for what God has placed in your heart. Nehemiah wept, fasted and prayed over the broken walls; Moses saw the oppression of his people; Jesus had compassion on crowds like sheep without a shepherd, and that burden for souls is still alive in us; Paul had unceasing anguish for his people. Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain.
“Every divine vision begins with a burden and is built by obedience, and it can only be sustained with God's hand.”
- Nehemiah 1:4
- Exodus 2:11-12
- Matthew 9:36
- Romans 9:2-3
- Psalm 127:1
It is built by obedience
Noah obeyed God's difficult instructions for a flood no one had seen. Abraham obeyed and went out without knowing exactly where he was going, and a nation came from it. Mary said "let it be to me according to your word", and her surrender made way for the birth of the Messiah. Jesus fulfilled the highest form of obedience, obedient to death on a cross.
“Mary's surrender gave way for one of the greatest visions, and that was the birth of our Messiah.”
- Genesis 6:22
- Hebrews 11:8
- Luke 1:38
- Philippians 2:8
Point one: grace is the fuel for the vision
Zerubbabel was given the task of rebuilding the temple and his human strength would never have been enough. Grace is divine enablement, not passive; human effort cannot even start the work, but grace sustains and completes it. Without grace a vision becomes tedious and tiresome; with grace it becomes a testimony, and mountains become level ground.
Illustration: Your car has broken down at the bottom of a hill. You can push it up yourself, or call a strong tow truck to carry it. The first is striving in the flesh; the second is being carried by grace.
“Without grace, I would say vision becomes tedious and tiresome, but with grace, a vision becomes a testimony to all.”
- Zechariah 4:6-7
Point two: opposition
Every God-given vision attracts opposition; when Nehemiah began to build, he was mocked. The enemy does not bother the inactive. Some opposition is internal, the doubt, fear and anxiety of the war in the mind. Opposition tests faith, focus and endurance and can slow a God-backed vision but cannot stop it. Answer it with prayer and strategy, praying precisely, and do not come down from your wall: do not lower your level or be drawn into petty battles.
“Obedience fuels vision more than ambition. So I would rather be a person of obedience than ambition.”
- Nehemiah 2:19-20
- Nehemiah 6:3
- Joshua 24:15
Point three: protection
God shields what He sends. Nehemiah's wall was marked by mockery, intimidation and sabotage, yet it was finished and the enemies themselves perceived that the work was done by God. If God has given you the assignment, for your family or the ministry, He will guard your progress. Do not be surprised by warfare; it confirms you are on the right track.
“No weapon formed against this vision shall prosper.”
- Nehemiah 6:15-16
- Isaiah 54:17
Point four: provision
God is able to make all grace abound so that you abound in every good work. Provision follows vision, and where God sends He supplies, raising up helpers and partners who give freely. Jesus fed five thousand with the five loaves and two fish that were already there, so you do not need everything in place before you start. God still sends ravens and still multiplies jars of oil.
“God funds what he favors.”
- 2 Corinthians 9:8
- Matthew 14:17-21
Putting it into practice
- Ask God for the burden behind the vision He has given you, for your family or the ministry
- Say yes to God even when it is hard or unpopular
- Pray precisely, and do not come down from your wall into petty battles
- Expect opposition and treat it as confirmation, not defeat
- Start with what God has already given you rather than waiting for everything to be in place
Closing
After the prayer points and worship, the speaker recaps them in prayer: grace on every leader and partner, protection from spiritual attack, helpers and partners raised up, provision from every side, unity, wisdom and open doors. The church is led in declarations over the vision, and the meeting closes in prayer that the vision is God's and not ours, with the next meeting at 7pm the following evening.
Declarations to say aloud
- Holy Spirit, cultivate love in my heart. Help me to grow in love so I can love and understand others. Walk with me in my love walk so I make room for others and practise the word given to us in 1 Corinthians. Let love permeate my every being.
- I declare that this vision shall be accomplished, not by might or by power, but by the Spirit of the Lord. Every opposition of the work is scattered right now in the name of Jesus. Every plan of the enemy is now frustrated. Supernatural provision flows from the north, the south, the east, and the west for this vision's fulfilment. The hand of God rests upon FCI.
Worth remembering
- “Every divine vision begins with a burden, and it's built by obedience.”
- “Without grace, I would say vision becomes tedious and tiresome, but with grace, a vision becomes a testimony to all.”
- “The enemy doesn't oppose those that are inactive.”
- “Obedience fuels vision more than ambition.”
- “God funds what he favors. Provision follows vision.”
