Dominion for You Is Not Dominion for Someone Else

Teaching series: Take Territory
Sermon outline
Every believer has a different realm where the enemy still dominates, and you take it back by mastering your mouth, decreeing God's word, evicting fear and wielding the sword of the Word until it becomes rhema in you.
Main text
- Numbers 13:30
- Job 22:28
Opening
He reads Caleb's words in Numbers 13:30, let us go at once and take the land, and says the church is still on the dominion mandate. Dominion means taking over a realm that was being dominated, and the minute you come on the scene in obedience to God's word, you take the victory there. He then recaps last week's points before carrying the teaching further.
Dominion for one is not dominion for another
A skilled professional may have taken dominion at work while the marriage is in shambles. For another person the realm is wayward children and the next generation, and for another it is health, spending more on doctors and medication than on enjoying life. The realms differ, but the principle is the same, because it is the same God who gives the wealth, the health, the legacy and the protection. Another specialist will not bring dominion; your Father alone will.
“Dominion for each and every one of us may be different, but the principle of that dominion is the same.”
- Hebrews 4:12
Master the mouth, and refuse the evil report
The 2026 mandate is to thrive and flourish, not to strive. Confession, homologeo, means agreeing with heaven about what has already been decreed over your life rather than agreeing with your five senses. You cannot receive from what you criticise. Only Joshua and Caleb brought a good report, and the evil report can live in your own home, in relatives who say all men or all women are the same, or that you must never outgrow where you come from. Do not tell those people your ideas.
Illustration: An eagle's egg rolls off a mountain onto a farm and is hatched among hens. The eagle looks up longing to fly, but everyone around him says that is not their lot in life, and he dies in the potential he never used.
“Confession is agreeing with Heaven about what already has been decreed over your life.”
- Numbers 13:30
- Romans 3:4
Establish kingdom law through decree
You shall decree a thing and it shall be established. When you speak faith you are not just hoping for a good outcome, you are legislating it in the spirit, and it becomes law in the natural. You are the lawmaker in your world, with authority to overrule unjust generational curses and demonic systems. Daniel was thrown to the lions under an unjust decree but did not panic, because he stood before a higher judge.
Illustration: After a long, painful season with an extended family matter, he laid his hands on his head in the car on the way home and decreed that he would never be caught up in the same things, never have a broken marriage, never be manipulative, and that no generation after him would deal with it.
“You have to decree a thing before it can be established in your life.”
- Job 22:28
- Matthew 9:29
Evict fear and trust an unseen God
Faith and fear cannot occupy the same heart; that is double-mindedness. Peter walked on the word of Jesus until he looked at the wind and the waves. Deception always relies on the senses, and Satan chips away at faith until the foundation breaks, so keep your focus on the promise and not on the rear-view mirror. Elisha knew the unseen realm was more real than the natural. A two-hour prayer in fear brings nothing, but a one-minute prayer in faith reaps results.
Illustration: He models the difference between a desperate prayer, Lord if You do not come through I am going to die, and a prayer of a son who thanks the Father and starts decreeing what His word declares.
“A prayer that is two hours in fear brings nothing. But one-minute prayer in faith will reap results.”
- James 1:8
- Matthew 14:29-30
- John 20:29
- 2 Kings 6:16-17
Wield the sword: logos becomes rhema
A Bible in a pretty bag on the counter is an ornament. Faith comes by hearing, so read the Word aloud and meditate on it day and night until it erupts inside you as rhema. Rhema comes two ways: God walks you through a process until you come out knowing it was only Him, or He places the victory in your heart without the fight, which He does only with faithful, focused people. After enough victories, nobody can tell you it does not work.
Illustration: A young couple are thrown into chaos by their first baby, but by the second and third they can do it with one eye closed. In the same way, once you have walked through a few victories you live as a conqueror. Paul shook the viper off into the fire because he knew his assignment was not finished.
“You've got to have logos in order to have rhema.”
- Romans 10:17
- Psalm 127:5
- Acts 28:3-5
- Daniel 6:22
- Genesis 1:26
To master a realm, keep growing in it
Whatever God has assigned you to requires knowledge, so you keep growing, even in retirement: take the information, learn it, understand it and apply it until you have mastered it. Solomon had a royal level of thinking and asked God for wisdom to handle people he knew were God's, not his. Your assignment is God's, not yours. Do not lose the art of reading, read in the realm you want to conquer, and remember that you cannot be outstanding without understanding.
Illustration: Solomon had no social media, no LinkedIn and no internet, yet the whole earth knew of him. AI tools that turn a book into a podcast are useful for a busy person, but certain things can only be gleaned by reading.
“When God has your number, it doesn't matter who you know. It's whose you are.”
- Proverbs 10:19
- Proverbs 15:23
- James 1:19
Putting it into practice
- Identify the realm in your own life that is still dominating you
- Stop sharing your ideas with people who only ever give a bad report
- Decree over yourself and your generations what God's word says
- Pray in faith as a son, not in fear and desperation
- Read the Word aloud and meditate on it daily, and read in the realm you want to conquer
- Declare 'I am more than a conqueror' every day this week
Closing
He has the church stand with family members and decree a long confession over themselves together. He charges them not to let the enemy set the terms or limits of their lives, reminds them that the weapons of their warfare are mighty through God and that there are more with them than against them, and sends them out to declare all week that they are more than conquerors, before the benediction.
Declarations to say aloud
- Taking dominion.
- Thrive and flourish.
- I am not fearful. I am faithful that we will overcome.
- It's whose you are, not who you know.
- I decree a thing and it shall be established. I will have what I say. I will not be deceived. I will not trust my senses over my Savior. I have no fear, zero fear. Father, in the name of Jesus, I have heard the word. I have heard the truth, and the truth is going to make me free. Lord, everything that the devil has stolen from my family, from my business, from my life, from my calling, I am going to use your rhema word, and I'm going to get it back in the name of Jesus. I may be uncomfortable now, but I am not uncomfortable with the fact that the Lord has my back. The challenges that I see in front of me, I know that my Lord will deliver me. I am exactly where the Lord needs me to be. I shall be faithful. I shall be true. I shall be desperate for the things of God. And God shall bring me through. I will be blessed in every season of my life, in every journey, in every walk, in every challenge, in every interaction. The glory of the Lord shall prevail.
- I am more than a conqueror.
Worth remembering
- “You cannot receive anything from something you criticize.”
- “God cannot move until you authorize Him with your faithful words.”
- “Faith and fear cannot occupy the same heart.”
- “If that Bible is not being read, forget it. It's just an ornament.”
- “You can never be outstanding if you do not have understanding.”
