God Looks at the Heart

Pastor Zubeda Sing · 2 min read

“But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the LORD sees not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.””
1 Samuel 16v7-8

The above scripture took place when Samuel went to anoint David as king after the anointing had left Saul. Saul was a king chosen by the people, David was a king, chosen by God. At the time of the anointing, David was just a shepherd boy, but God saw a king. Saul was still the king in the eyes of the people, but the ability to perform the mandate of the king was taken away as the anointing had left him. He had the appearance of a king, but lacked the backing of God to effectively be king.

All the brothers of David came before Samuel. They had the appearance and supposed character of a king in the making, yet as they passed by, God rejected them and Samuel had to ask if Jesse had another son. When Jesse revealed he had another son who was just shepherding the sheep and the brothers looked with disdain on Samuel, wondering why he could not take one of them. God was looking for a man who was after his own heart. David was that man. It did not matter how good the others looked, David had the look that God was looking for, His Heart was definitely better than his looks.

The Thriver has the making and ability of a king.
