The Impurity of the Heart

Pastor Zubeda Sing · 2 min read

“Then, as the ark of the LORD came into the City of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter [David’s wife], looked down from the window above and saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she felt contempt for him in her heart [because she thought him undignified].”
2 Samuel 6v16

David was a man after God’s heart. He delighted in worship and praise as well as thanksgiving to God for the great things God had done in his life. Imagine this great God who had changed his life from a shepherd boy to a king overnight. He thought his life was going nowhere because no one gave him the time of day. When the prophet Samuel came to visit with his anointing oil, even his Father, did not remember him until the Prophet asked if Jesse had one more son. That must have hurt. However, the rejection and the pain did not affect David. He relished in the fact that He was God’s favourite and he sought every way possible to worship the Father.

In the above scripture David was coming into the city with the ark of the Lord, (The presence if the Lord as in the days of old was in an ark) and he was so happy to have the ark back in the city to bless not only him but the people as well. When his wife saw how he was behaving, she did not go and join in with the thanksgiving, rather she judged David. What she did not realise was that God was watching and listening to her words. The contempt she felt in her heart, reached God and he made her barren where she never had any children. Her high status as the daughter of King Saul did not prevent the judgement of God on her life. Her attitude towards David, was her attitude towards God and this brought her consequences that really damaged her life as she never became a mother. What a cost. It was only when this incident occurred that she realized the state of her heart, yet God sees the end from the beginning.
