Be Sober in your Mind

“Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour.”
The scripture from Peter says, be sober, well balanced and self-disciplined, be alert and cautious at all times. As much as you would like to be like what the scripture is asking you so that you can stand against the devil, in your own power you will never achieve this. Jesus was with the disciples all the time, yet no changes could be made. It was then that he said, the father will send you another comforter. The comforter was the Holy Spirit who brought the changes in their lives that were sustainable. The spirit of God in our lives, is a guide, a teacher, a standby and so much more. We have to embrace him and realise his worth in our lives. When we are soaked daily in the presence of God and have the word of God written on our hearts then this life is so much easier. The responsibility of the request to be sober, well balanced etc. is taken over by the Holy Spirit as he takes our lives and leads us in the paths of righteousness. The decision is entirely ours. The quicker we make this decision, the quicker we will grow and we will immediately notice that some of the people around us the enemy uses to prowl around us like a roaring lion. The words in their mouth is contrary to the word of God yet they have the look and the speech that seems to say that they are ok. We need the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives so we can overcome the wiles of the devil. We are born to win and overcome in this life.
Let this mind be in you that was also in Christ Jesus. Jesus did not have to think about who he was, He knew who he was. So much so that when the devil told him to turn the stones in to bread to test him, he refused to be tested. He already knew he was the son of God.
I thriver understands and knows his identity. His confidence does not come from his own ability or skill, his ability is attached to the presence of the Holy Spirit in his life.
