Selfless Giving

“And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.”
“do not lay this sin to their charge”. Wow, what a declaration. They falsely accused him, locked him up and held a court case against him. When he spoke the truth to them, they all charged at him in one accord and took him out of the city where they stoned him to death. In his last breath, he looks to Jesus to say the words, “lay not this sin to their charge”. What love and understanding was in this young man. To the end he gave his all for the kingdom of God. We could and should say, he was selfless in his giving.
In no way are we asking nor are we asked to be this selfless in our giving. Jesus died for us and every thing we will ever need has been provided us in the grace given to us by Jesus. Jesus only asks that we love him with all of our heart and love our brothers and sisters as we love ourselves. We will learn as we grow in Christ, how to be selfless in our giving, where other people matter, more than ourselves. In every relationship it is not about ourselves but about how we treat others. Give generously of yourself and forgive others showing mercy all the time.
