Principles for Giving No.4 (Part 2)

Dr RJ Sing · 1 min read

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”
Matthew 6:19-21

Your heart’s desire must not be set upon your worldly possessions and the things of the world. John wrote, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in Him” (1 John 2:15)

What are your treasures? Are you storing up treasures here on earth or in heaven? Worldly possessions and the riches of this world will pass away. (See 1Timothy 6:7). You must not allow yourself to get caught up in the spirit of the world where you covet or lust after an abundance of the world’s possessions. Instead of storing up treasures here on earth, Jesus said, store up treasures in heaven.

Your heart must be focused upon the Kingdom of God. Giving to God begins with the attitude of your heart. When your heart is set upon God and building His Kingdom, your finances will be dedicated to Him, and you will give freely and liberally.
