Principles for Giving No.14

“On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple area and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. And as he taught them, he said, "Is it not written:” 'My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it 'a den of robbers.”
PRINCIPLE NO.14: GIVE YOUR OFFERINGS FROM PURE MOTIVES. On two different occasions, Jesus cleansed the Temple of those who were buying and selling. The first instance of this was at the beginning of His ministry (John 2:13-18) When He went to the temple, He found that it was polluted with money changers and people who were selling for sacrificial offerings. When Jesus saw this, He was filled with righteous indignation. He overturned the tables and ran them out of the temple.
The second occasion when Jesus cleansed the temple was the final week before He would give His life on the Cross. Every step and action He took that week was with Divine Purpose. The temple had once again become polluted, and He went there to re-establish the true purpose of the temple. Jesus was very angry when He saw the temple being made a place of merchandise. He said… “Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father’s house into a market?” (John 2:16 NIV)
