Fasting Is Another Way of Feasting!

“Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency”
Fasting is separating yourself from food for a season in order to draw close to God on behalf of others. This practice is easily perverted into a religious activity to be seen of men (as Jesus reminded the Pharisees) or one that is done while tolerating strife, debate and pleasure (Isaiah 58:3, 4)
Isaiah said that the fast God has chosen is one that focuses on the needs of others. When we become so burdened about a yoke of oppression upon the back of another that we refuse to partake of our normal food until that person is delivered, God is pleased. (Isaiah 58:6) Daniel fasted, not for himself, but for the nation to be returned back from Babylon.
If we spend ourselves ‘in behalf of the hungry’. (Isaiah 58:10), then God will bless us with light, health and water. Our light will be guidance through dark places; our ‘water’ will be emotional and spiritual joy in times of drought. As someone said, ‘Fasting is another way of Feasting’.
