Jacob and the Tithe (Part 1)

“And this stone, which I have set [for] a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.”
As you well know that Jacob was Abraham’s grandson. Jacob became a refuge because of the way he had tricked Isaac, his father, and Esau, his brother. He left the land of inheritance and went off to seek his fortune in Mesopotamia. When he set out, all he had in his hand was one staff.
This is what Jacob said in *Genesis 28:20-22, “And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God: And this stone, which I have set [for] a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.”*
Here we find tithing again. In essence Jacob said that God supplies His needs, and he will in return give Him back a tenth of all that he was provided with. As his life progressed we find that by following this principle, Jacob became a man who had obtained tremendous wealth. He had a very large family, yet all of his needs were met by the Lord every step of the way. He did not lack anything because of practicing this principle. You too can experience this.
