Sermon outline

God knows everything about you, even what nobody around you knows, and He is bigger than every challenge, so hand it over to Him, pray together in unity and step into the new month expecting increase and giving thanks.

Main text

  • Psalm 46

Opening

She greets everyone at the end of what may have been a stressful day and prays they will enter God's rest as the church comes together to close the month of August in prayer. Before anyone prays she speaks a short word of encouragement: God has been God through every challenge, He knows you completely, and He is bigger than whatever you face.

  1. God knows the things nobody around you knows

Your steps are ordered by the Lord, no temptation is uncommon, and with every challenge God provides a way of escape and never gives more than you can bear. What He has begun in you He will complete. He knows what you are not mentioning and what the people around you do not know about you, and He is the God who is ever present, a present help in trouble and in joy.

“He even knows the things that you're not mentioning or the people around you don't even know about you, but God knows it.”

    • Psalm 37:23
    • 1 Corinthians 10:13
    • Philippians 1:6
    • Isaiah 49:16
    • Psalm 46:1
    • Ephesians 1:3
  2. When it is too big for you, it is not too big for God

Lay aside the weights and make a determined decision that the challenges are not bigger than you, because God is bigger than the circumstances. The One who holds the heavens and the earth together by the word of His power is the One you hand the overwhelming thing to, telling Him plainly that you cannot do it in your own strength.

Illustration: Riding along the beach that morning she watched waves of two metres or more and could not understand how the ocean could be like that. She thought of how some things in life seem just as overwhelming.

“When it's big, it's too big for you, but it's not too big for God.”

    • Hebrews 12:1
    • Hebrews 1:3
    • Psalm 42:5
  3. Why we are praying tonight

The church does not normally meet for prayer at that point in the month, but rather than wait until the following week she called the meeting to close the month together in unity and strength, where God can command the blessing. Several members of the church lead in turn before communion.

“Let's close this off with the prayer meeting where we come together in unity, in strength, where God can command these blessings.”

  4. Strengthened with might in the inner man

She opens the prayer by thanking God for the Holy Spirit and for the spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, might and knowledge resting on the church, and prays the prayers of Ephesians over them: enlightened understanding, strength in the inner man, Christ dwelling in their hearts by faith, rooted and grounded in love. She prays for those with low self esteem to see themselves as God sees them, and declares that the church will lay down sin consciousness for righteousness consciousness and rise as sons and daughters, kings and priests.

Illustration: God called Gideon a mighty man of valour before he saw himself that way.

“We do not allow our minds to have a sin consciousness. We have a righteousness consciousness.”

    • Isaiah 11:2
    • Ephesians 1:17-19
    • Ephesians 3:20
    • Ephesians 3:16-17
    • Judges 6:12
    • 1 John 1:9
  5. The church prays together

Members of the church take turns. They pray for peace and unity in every home against strife and contention, and for the senior pastor, the founder and visionary of the house. They pray over the youth and children, that their identity would be in Christ and not in the approval of others, and for students writing exams to remember what they have learnt without anxiety. They pray for minds kept in perfect peace and for healing, for success and peace in the workplace, and for members' businesses, employees, customers and finances as September begins.

    • Philippians 4:7
    • Isaiah 54:17
    • Zechariah 4:6
    • Psalm 121:1-2
    • Jeremiah 1:5
    • 2 Corinthians 10:5
    • Isaiah 41:10
    • Philippians 4:6
    • James 1:5
    • 2 Timothy 1:7
    • Isaiah 26:3
    • Hebrews 13:8
    • 2 Peter 2:9
    • Isaiah 53:5
    • Matthew 18:20
    • Psalm 1:3
  6. Covered by the blood, living in the overflow

Before communion she covers every family with the blood of Jesus: their minds, emotions, jobs, businesses, speech and relationships. She prays over everyone who gives into the kingdom, calls in money owed to those in business, and decrees waves of increase for September in the same way she watched the waves come in that morning. Every good and perfect gift comes from above, so get ready for increase and begin to expect it.

Illustration: The waves she watched at the beach that morning become her picture of waves and waves of increase in finances.

“We are living in the overflow. We are living in favor.”

    • Luke 6:38
    • Deuteronomy 28:6
    • James 1:17
  7. Make September a month of thanksgiving

When the miracles come, do not keep quiet. Of the ten lepers only one came back to say thank you, and he was the one made completely whole. She calls the church to share their testimonies, to give, love and forgive as never before, and to let a newness of life show at home, at work and in their marriages, whatever people say about money in a pandemic.

Illustration: The ten lepers: only one came back to give thanks, and he was the one made whole.

“As the miracles begin to take place in your life, don't keep quiet and keep it to yourself.”

    • Luke 17:12-19

Putting it into practice

  • Hand over to God whatever is too big for you, and tell Him you cannot do it in your own strength
  • Refuse sin consciousness and walk in righteousness consciousness
  • Expect increase in the new month and begin to receive it
  • When the answer comes, give thanks and share your testimony with the church
  • Give, love and forgive as you never have before, and let your home and workplace see the difference

Closing

She leads communion, reminding the church that Jesus said it was finished on the cross and that they will laugh in the face of every adversity because of who they are in Christ. She has them declare that it is well with them, greets several people by name as they take the bread and the cup, and tells the church they are family: their success is the church's success and their pain the church's pain. She blesses them into a victorious September.

Declarations to say aloud

  • It is well with me. It is well with my soul. It is well with my business. It is well with my health.
  • I am prospering and abounding in the blessing.

Worth remembering

  • “When it's big, it's too big for you, but it's not too big for God.”
  • “The challenges are not bigger than me. God is bigger than the challenge.”
  • “We do not allow our minds to have a sin consciousness. We have a righteousness consciousness.”
  • “Your success is our success. Your victories are our victories, and when you go through pain, we go through pain.”
