7 Places the Blood Was Shed and What Each One Bought
Pastor Wesley Sing, 20 April 2026, 54 min
Sermon outline
Jesus shed His blood in seven places, and at each one He bought something for us, so that through the divine exchange at the cross He took the punishment and we received a whole new life.
Main text
- Matthew 26:26-29
- Matthew 26:36-27:54
- Isaiah 53:4-5
Opening
He thanks the children for the Sunday school item and urges parents not to crush their confidence. He prays in thanks for the blood of the Lamb, greets those watching online and partner churches, and reads the passion narrative from Matthew 26 and 27, starting in the Living Bible and moving to the Message: the Last Supper, Gethsemane, the arrest, the trials, the mockery, the crucifixion, the darkness, the torn curtain and the centurion's confession. He then tells the children's story The Giving Tree, in which the tree gives the boy its apples, branches, trunk and finally its stump, and is happy: the Lord gave us all that He had, and He shed His blood in seven different ways.
Gethsemane: the blood of faithfulness
In His anguish His sweat became like great drops of blood, the greatest distress a person can experience. Three times He prayed, not My will but Yours, and there He decided to pay the price and carry all betrayal, anguish, despair and hopelessness, so that the pain of our betrayals is taken away and we can live in the peace of God.
“In that garden, he made the decision to pay the price.”
- Luke 22:44
- Matthew 26:39-44
The crown of thorns: the blood of conquest
Thorns were forced onto His head and the soldiers kept striking Him with a staff. That blood redeems us from the curse that came on the earth through Adam's sin and lets us live in the blessing and prosperity of God, which he defines not as money but as the richness, clarity and power God brings that nothing else can.

“When you think about prosperity, don't think about money. Think about the richness that God brings into your life.”
- Matthew 27:29-30
The beard: the blood of identity
Isaiah foretold that He would give His cheeks to those who plucked out the beard. His face was so disfigured that there was nothing beautiful about His appearance. His face was made unrecognisable so that we could recover our identity.
“He lost that identity that we found that identity.”
- Isaiah 50:6
- Isaiah 53:2
The back: the blood of redemption and healing
He was whipped thirty-nine times with a Roman scourge weighted with metal and bone. He was pierced for our transgressions, and by His wounds we are healed. Only God takes away eczema, sinus, asthma, cancer, high blood pressure and diabetes; healing is the children's bread, and we forget how many calamities we never experienced because of His grace.

“It is only God that can take away the cancer.”
- Isaiah 53:4-5
The hands: the blood of productivity
The hands that worked innumerable miracles were nailed to the cross, so that His blood could redeem the hands of every evil act and release the same power into the hands of His children. Nothing you have done is beyond God's forgiveness, and only Jesus can forgive sin. Do not let anger or pride take your salvation lightly.
“There is nothing that you've done in your life that God cannot forgive.”
The feet: the blood of purpose
One long nail pierced both feet below the ankle bone, and every breath meant pushing His weight against it. He suffered this so that our steps could be redeemed, ordered by the Lord and kept in holiness, as we walk by God's guidance rather than human intellect.
Illustration: Some of us step on a thorn in the garden and feel as if the world has ended.
“My steps are ordered of the Lord.”
- Psalm 37:23
The heart: the blood of restoration
When the soldier pierced His side, blood and water flowed, which he describes as the sign of a heart that had burst under the anguish. Because of His broken heart, our hearts are restored: there is no betrayal, pain or suffering Christ has not already paid for. At the cross a divine exchange takes place: we leave the past and the old nature there and rise as a new creation, free from low self-esteem, poverty, hurt and sickness.
Illustration: Even at the point of death, with a broken heart, a torn back and no breath, the sun was darkened, the earth shook and the dead were raised.
“Jesus took the punishment, but the divine exchange was that we received a whole new life.”
- John 19:34
- 2 Corinthians 5:17
- Romans 8:39
Putting it into practice
- Leave your past, pain and betrayal at the foot of the cross
- Do not let anger or pride make you take your salvation lightly
- If you have walked away from God, rededicate your life to Him
- If you made a decision online, fill in the commitment form on the church website and join the beginners class and a cell
- Spend the Easter weekend and family day together as a family
Closing
He leads the church in a confession of what the blood has done, then gives an altar call for salvation and rededication, bringing people to the front and leading them in a new salvation prayer that renounces the works of darkness and asks to be filled with the Holy Spirit. He explains that communion is for those who know the Lord, leads the church in communion, sends new believers to the foyer for follow-up, and closes with Easter greetings and the benediction.
Declarations to say aloud
- Thank you, Lord Jesus, for your precious blood.
- My steps are ordered of the Lord.
- By the blood of Jesus, I am redeemed from the power of the enemy. By the blood of Jesus, I am forgiven from all my sins. By the blood of Jesus, I am cleansed now and continually from all my sin. By the blood of Jesus, I am justified, and God sees me as if I've never sinned. By the blood of Jesus, I am sanctified, and I'm set free, and I'm set apart for godly purposes.
- Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus. Your word says, whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. I am calling on you now. I ask you, Lord Jesus, to come into my life and come into my heart and be the Lord of my life. According to your word in Romans chapter 10, I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord, and I believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead. I am now reborn. I am a Christian. I am a child of Almighty God. From today, I am saved.
- Lord, I stand before you today and I renounce all the works of darkness. I break every legal ground that the enemy may have had over my life. In the name of Jesus, I renounce and I sever all ties to witchcraft, unholy rituals, and covenants that were born out of idolatry and the forces of darkness. I declare that every ancestral altar is torn down. It is broken now, and every demonic assignment against my destiny is canceled by the precious blood of the Lamb. I am no longer a slave to the past. I am a new creation in Christ Jesus.
- I thank you, Father, for the gift of the Holy Spirit. According to your word in Luke 11, I open up myself to you. I ask you to fill me with your overflowing Holy Spirit. Rise up within me, Holy Spirit. I fully expect to speak in other tongues as you give me the utterance. You equip me with the power to walk in total victory from this day on and for the rest of my life.
- I am redeemed from the kingdom of darkness, and I am translated into the kingdom of your dear Son. I am saved. I am delivered. I am sent to be a conqueror, and I shall conquer, and I shall be the very best that Christ has for me. I receive it now. I declare it now. I am a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of God's possession. I proclaim the excellencies of Him who called me out of darkness and into His marvelous light. I am a new creation in Christ Jesus. I'm a Christian. I receive it now. In Jesus' mighty name, amen.
- Thank you, Lord Jesus, for your precious body that was broken for me.
Worth remembering
