God’s Righteousness

Dr RJ Sing · 1 min read

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
(2 Corinthians 5:21 – NKJV)

God made Jesus, who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Jesus. There was an exchange that took place. Jesus was made sin so that we might become righteous. We were made righteous by the righteousness of God. In the Book of Matthew, we read “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33 NKJV) That righteousness is of God which is received through faith in Jesus Christ.

In the book of Isaiah, we read: “(Isaiah 64.6) Yes, that was before Jesus came. This verse says that “Our righteousness are like filthy rags”. Even our best conduct and behaviour does not match up for what is required in heaven. Oh, but praise God!

Once we received Christ Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, we become the righteousness of God. God requires that we put away those “filthy rags” of our own righteousness. We must rely, accept and rest on God’s righteousness made available to us through Jesus Christ.
