Power Principle for Giving No.13 (Part 2)

Dr RJ Sing · 1 min read

“A woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table”.”
Matthew 26:7

We continue with our account of the anointing at Bethany. We stated that this woman gave what was most valuable to her as an act of worship. She did not give for selfish reasons. Her heart was overflowing with love and thankfulness to Christ for who He was and what He had done for her. It was such a lavish gift that it shocked and surprised Jesus’ disciples.

They did not understand the woman’s actions and considered it to be a waste of money. All the tithes, offerings and special gifts that we give should be given with the same attitude, that this woman gave the alabaster box of precious ointment, as an expression of love and worship to Almighty God. This woman simply wanted to express her love for Christ, through her giving.

Because of her unselfish, wholehearted giving, not only was her gift accepted, Jesus told the disciples that it would be a lasting memorial for her throughout the world, wherever the Gospel was preached. Let your giving to God be a very personal, intimate, sacred part of your worship.
